Florida airports to close during Hurricane Irma

Florida airports to close during Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma over the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico.

The three largest international airports in Florida in the United States have announced that commercial operations will be suspended on Saturday, September 9.

Orlando International, Miami International and Fort Lauderdale International Airport will close down due to the expected arrival of Hurricane Irma this weekend.

“Our Emergency Management Team is actively monitoring the weather conditions and working closely with the county and city emergency management agencies and our airline partners to determine the operational status of Orlando International Airport,” said executive director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, Phil Brown.

Miami International Airport has, however, noted that the Federal Aviation Administration will not close its control tower at the airport until sustained winds reach 55 miles per hour.
